Book your holiday lights in September, not December

Our seasonal lighting calendar starts filling in early fall. Here's what sets your install date, and what to decide before you call.

A two-story home outlined in warm white bulbs with a bare tree wrapped from trunk to branch tips, boulders and a lit bed along the drive.

Most people start thinking about holiday lights after Thanksgiving. By then our calendar is already filling. We install through late fall and into December, and the homes that get their first-choice date, and the design they actually planned, are the ones that called in September or October.

Why the date comes first

Reserving early gets you two things at once: the install slot and the design you want. Most holiday lighting customers rebook the same display every year, so a returning home can take a date before a new one even calls. Wait until November and you are choosing from whatever is left.

What to decide before you call

  • The look: roofline only, or roofline plus peaks, gables, and trees, or one statement tree wrapped trunk to tip
  • Color: classic warm white, color, or a mix
  • A new design, or the same display as last year
  • Whether you want the lights stored for you after the holidays, so next year starts with a phone call instead of a garage full of bins

The roofline is the part worth hiring out

Putting up your own lights means ladder time on a wet, cold roof at the slickest time of year, and the features that make a display look finished, the roofline, the peaks, a tall tree, are exactly the hardest and least safe parts to reach on your own. Our crews work at roofline height on every job we do, including steep and multi-story roofs, and they are trained and insured for it. If a bulb or a strand fails partway through the season, we come back and fix it so the display never sits half dark.

If you would rather never book a seasonal install again

Permanent lighting is a one-time install: LED points built into a low-profile track along your roofline, controlled from your phone, holiday colors in December and whatever you want the rest of the year. We wrote up how to choose between the two if you are not sure which fits your house.

Either way, the lights and the ladder are our problem, not yours. We design it, we hang it, and we take it down when the season ends.
